OSWEGO, NY (July 23, 2019) - Eight time and defending Oswego Speedway track champion and former ‘King of Wings’ Otto Sitterly will be making the tow to Sandusky, Ohio for this week’s 42nd annual Hy-Miler Convenience Nationals at the Sandusky Speedway.
This weekend’s appearance will be Sitterly’s first at Sandusky since the 2017 Hy-Miler, in which the forty three time Oswego winner made his final start for Bodnar Racing. It will also mark the first time ever that a John Nicotra owned machine has seen the half mile oval.
Since beginning his Supermodified career in 2000, Sitterly has only attempted the Hy-Miler five times. His first start came in 2011 with Vic Miller followed by a return in 2014 driving the Bodnar No. 96 which sparked three consecutive appearances in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
In those five starts, Sitterly has been top ten on a pair of occasions, including a strong fourth in Hy-Miler 39 held in 2016. Oswego’s King of Wings VII also has a seventh place run to his credit in the Friday ‘Fast Forty.’
During testing at Oswego Speedway last week, the future hall of famer not only showed speed with the Oswego wing, but with the top wing as well, quickly finding the 15.2 second bracket at the July 19 Fast Friday session.
Sitterly will join fellow Oswego champion Michael Barnes and the remainder of the New York State contingent including Michael Muldoon, Tyler Thompson, and rookie campaigner Nicholas Capelli in the field this Friday and Saturday.
Sandusky pit gates will open at 2pm on Friday, with grandstands and practice at 4pm and time trials at 6:30pm. Qualifying races will take the green flag at 7:30pm. Grandstand tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors, $8 for kids six to twelve, and children five and under are free.
For Saturday’s finale, pits will open at 11am, grandstands and practice at 1pm, time trials at 4pm, and racing at 7pm. Grandstand pricing will be $28 for adults, $26 for seniors, $8 for kids six to twelve, and children five and under will again be admitted without charge.
Fans planning to attend both days of the Hy-Miler will have the opportunity to purchase a two day pit pass through the Speedway for $75. Further information on Hy-Miler Weekend can be found at SanduskySpeedway.com.
