October 5, 2018 - Now only one week away from Friday festivities at the 56th Annual Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, we move to driver / owner Mark Sammut of London, Ontario in our countdown to the Sunday, October 14 ISMA 50.
Sammut has one win in 2018, coming in the year’s second night of racing in early June at Lancaster Motorsports Park in New York. He’s finished top-5 on two other occasions (Lee USA and Star) and he’ll enter Thompson fourth in the owner and driver standings with an outside shot at third; fellow Canadian Mike Lichty will enter the weekend 29 points ahead of Sammut for third.
A seven-time ISMA feature winner and model of consistency that’s been evident his entire career, Sammut has nine top-10s in 10 starts this year. Only Kyle Edwards has finished top 10 in all 10 starts.
Sammut’s white and red Canadian-clad No. 78 is as familiar a car when ISMA comes to town as any supermodified on the circuit, and he’s always a fan-favorite, especially in Canada.
His best run at Thompson in recent years came in 2016, when he finished third to Dave Shullick Jr. and Mike Ordway Jr., and he’s finished top-five in the World Series on multiple other occasions. Always capable of a win no matter where the race, look for Sammut to be fast at Thompson and challenge to join Ordway and Tim Jedrzejek as two-time ISMA winners in 2018.
ISMA practice and qualifying races will be Saturday, Oct. 13 with the ISMA 50 joining numerous other divisions’ main events on Sunday afternoon at the fast five-eighths-mile Thompson oval.
