Sandusky, OH (July 25, 2014) - Night one of the 37th Annual Hy-Miler Nationals at Sandusky Speedway in Sandusky, Ohio ended in the early hours of Saturday morning. But a strong group of ISMA Supermodified fans stayed up to watch Ben Seitz win the Fast 40-lap feature.
Seitz would get by early leader Jeff Locke on lap 16 and would not be contested in the preliminary to Saturday night's 100-lap main event.
"The car was awesome," Seitz said in victory lane. "We had a good starting spot but the car was real good. Jeff got in the turns real hot and washed up. I think he was getting loose. But, I got under him and the rest was history."
With a restart with three laps to go, DJ Shullick was looking to chase down Seitz and challenge for the win but came up short.
"I thought I might have a shot at it, but I was a little tight," Shullick said. "I would have to have a perfect lap to get around him but I with a couple of laps to go, it didn't give me enough time to set him up."
Mike Lichty started ninth and came home with a third place finish.
"It was a good run. Obviously it was a quick race, being only 40 laps and everyone knew that," Lichty said. "We wanted to get to the front as quickly as we could but not burn up our stuff either. It's a tough race but to come from ninth to third, we were still missing something. We don't have the drive off and the side bite that we need. It's another top three, so we will take it."
All three are looking towards the big 100-lap event on Saturday night.
"We should have a pretty good car. We need to make some adjustments for tomorrow for the longer race," Seitz said. "But everything was good tonight."
Lou Cicconi Jr. was fourth with current ISMA Supermodified point leader Rob Summers rounding out the top five.
The final day of the 37th Annual Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals conclude on Saturday with the ISMA Supermodifieds and the Top Speed Modifieds in action. Qualifying is at 4pm with racing at 7pm.

May 18, 2018 (Oswego, NY) - With the recent postponement and rescheduling of the ISMA opener at Monadnock Speedway until June 23, all eyes turn to the new opener, which will take place at Delaware Speedway (ON) on June 1. That June 1 event is followed by a June 2 race at Lancaster Speedway, making for a busy doubleheader to start the 2018 season.
Oswego, NY (May 9, 2018) – In 2017, the 97 team of Howie Lane and driver Tim Jedrzejek had what might be considered a good year on the ISMA supermodified trail. They finished second in the competitive ISMA point standings, and had one feature win at New London-Waterford Speedbowl. One thing eluded them….an ISMA championship.
Over the twelve-race slate of races scheduled in 2017, the Lane-Jedrzejek team never finished out of the top ten, six of them were top fives – a first, two seconds, one third and two fifths. Not at all a bad record, but not quite enough to put them on top of the leaderboard and bring home a first-time championship.
WINCHESTER, NH (May 8, 2018) - Ohio’s Trent Stephens will be heading to the CARQUEST Genden Auto Parts 75 Presented by T-Bird Mini Marts ISMA Season Opener on Saturday, May 19. Stephens is again planning to run the full ISMA season this year as he has been doing.
Stephens, driving the Steve Stout number 19 car, finished fourth in the competitive ISMA point standings in 2017, and he is looking forward to the new venue at the 2018 opener.
Oswego, NY (May 1, 2018) - It’s almost hard to believe that Wellington, Ohio’s Mike McVetta has only been an ISMA full time participant for three years. In that short time he has become integral part of the supermodified group. With 24 years of racing experience, six years in supermodifieds overall, he has come to be recognized as a driver to be reckoned with.
WINCHESTER, NH (April 19, 2018) - ISMA driver Dan Bowes, out of Byfield, MA, plans on heading to the CARQUEST Genden Auto Parts 75 presented by T-Bird Mini Marts at the Monadnock Speedway on Saturday, May 19. It will be the first time in close to four decades the winged supers have raced at the New Hampshire quarter-mile oval, and it will be a first time for Bowes.
