Oswego, NY (Sept. 3, 2016) - Dave Shullick Jr. has been in an up and down battle with Mike Lichty for the 2016 ISMA point title most of the season. At Delaware Speedway on Aug. 19, Shullick lost the point lead to Mike Lichty when Lichty won the event and Shoe II finished down the line in 15th. Saturday night at Oswego Speedway the roles reversed as Lichty suffered a broken torque arm ladder in his heat while Shullick went on to grab the lead of the Bud Light SuperNationals from Tim Jedrzejek on lap 39 and took the win.
Lichty had tried to start the 60-lapper but failed, crediting the 84 with last place. For Shullick Jr. it was his third win in the Classic weekend event, and sixth victory overall in Oswego winged competition. The win was Shullick's 19th career win in ISMA, his fifth this season and moved into sole possession of the seventh spot on the ISMA All-Time win list.
Delaware, Ont. - August 19, 2016 – Mike Lichty and Dave Shullick Jr. have been locked in a battle for the 2016 ISMA championship for most of the season. Lichty had lost some headway at Lee USA in early August but came back to gain some by winning at the New London Waterford Speedbowl the next day. Shullick, with four feature wins coming into Delaware was ahead by a mere six points. Having won the last two races at the Ontario, Canada oval, he might have been considered the favorite to repeat.
Lichty, with two feature wins to his credit, had not had not fared well in the June Delaware show, finishing sixteenth. The tide turned Friday night for Lichty. Starting seventh in the field, he had some exciting duals with both Mike Ordway Jr. and Timmy Jedrzejek on his way to the front to become the leader of the Harvey Lennox Memorial 75 on lap 54.
Lee ,NH (Aug. 5, 2016) – Last season Dave Shullick won his second Ollie Silva Memorial 75 on his way to a first-ever ISMA championship. He was battling Mike Lichty for that ISMA title. In 2016 he and Lichty were again in a title battle going into Lee. Shullick, starting 10th, had to run down a high-flying duo up front in Mike McVetta and Mike Ordway Jr. to put the 95 into a position to pounce. But Lichty was also in the mix past halfway, moving by Shullick on lap 49 and then McVetta on lap 50. McVetta had a wheel break and pitted shortly thereafter leaving Lichty and Shullick to battle up front. Shullick went high and low looking for a way by the 84, finally taking the lead on lap 56. The second generation Ohio driver had control from there on in, taking the checkered with a healthy margin less than 20 laps later. Shullick had the race mapped out prior to the race, and 75 laps after the green dropped, Shoe II was right where he wanted to be - in victory lane.
Waterford, CT (Aug. 6, 2016) - Ohio's Mike McVetta led two-thirds of the Ollie Silva Memorial Friday night until a broken wheel cost him what might have been a third career ISMA win. Saturday night, he earned redemption at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl's Wings and Wheels 50. Starting on the pole, McVetta took command in the race and in a blink of the eye, cruised to victory.
The 50-lapper went green to checkered in 11 minutes and 11 seconds and although Mike Ordway Jr. tried to track McVetta down, he fell short in the rapid-fire display of winged speed.
Sandusky, OH (July 30, 2016) – Ridgeville, Ohio's Dave Shullick Jr. accomplished what just a handful of drivers have done over the years. He won both legs of the annual Hy-Miler weekend when he won the Hy-Miler Nationals on at Sandusky Speedway on Saturday, after winning the Fast Forty on Friday. Shullick had to battle some tough opponents to accomplish the feat as some of supermodified's best were trying to etch their names in the historic event. Handicapping put Shullick back in tenth on the starting grid and he had to fight his way forward past some hard racing adversaries.
